Is it Time to Replace Your iPod Nano Battery, Do You Know How?

The ipod nano can be divided in two generations. For the first generation of ipod nanos the ipod nano battery can be replaced with the 400 mAh battery. This battery provides 400 milli amp hours of playtime for your ipod nano. For the second generation of ipod nanos the battery can be replaced with the 500 mAh battery. This battery provides 500 milli amp hours of playtime for your ipod nano. The main reason to replace the ipod nano battery regardless of which generation you have is playtime. When you replace your ipod nano battery with one of these batteries, depending on which generation of ipod you have, you can increase your playtime significantly.

If you are thinking of replacing your ipod nano battery there is something you must be aware about. Often when hearing the phrase “replacing ipod battery” one figures that this is a no sweat easy task that can be accomplished easily and quickly. However this is not true when it comes to both generations of ipod nano batteries. Both generations of ipod nano batteries are soldered on the motherboard of the ipod. This could mean that if you’re not really sure on how to replace an ipod battery, better leave it to the experts. You might end up buying a new iPod when you break it trying to replace your iPod battery. The recommended thing to do in this case is to have the battery replaced by the certified technicians. These experienced technicians can replace the battery for you will replace your iPod battery and guarantee their work for you. Costs are also reduced if you purchase the battery from them and have them replace it. Either of those choices would be fine, the important thing is to keep in mind that this task will not be as easy as one might think it would be. It does require soldering since the stock battery is soldered to the motherboard of the ipod. This is why following one of the two suggestions to replace the ipod nano battery will prevent you or anyone else from damaging the ipod.

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

Now returning to the batteries of for the ipod nano, the advantages of replacing the battery with either a 400 mAh or 500 mAh is a no brainer . First of all it is not that expensive to obtain a replacement battery for the ipod nano. Second, these batteries are guaranteed for 10 years. This means that when you buy one of these you are being guaranteed quality for 10 years, which means improved playtime of your ipod nano. This means that its going to be the only iPod nano battery you will ever buy.

When it comes to costs, these replacement batteries aren’t too much. They run for about twenty dollars for both the 400 mAh and the 500 mAh. If you would choose the route to have installed by a technician, from the place you buy it, it would cost slightly more. However, like it was discussed before, having an experienced technician install your ipod nano battery is well worth it. This is mainly because of the battery being soldered directly on the motherboard of the ipod and you minimize the risk of damaging your iPod.

Just about anyone who owns an ipod nano because of its convenient size and portability are probably using their iPod a lot.

Any iPod heavy user always wished and desired to get the most out of their battery’s life. This meaning that you are looking for it to last as long as possible. It’s almost like getting the very last drop of power from your ipod nano battery.

What can you do so you can have your battery to have an extended charge as long as you can? There are going to be some tips discussed that will help you get the most out of your ipod nano battery and minimize unnecessary charging your ipod more than what you are actually using it. There are only two tips that will be discussed but these tips are very important and can make a big difference when it comes to how much battery life you are getting from your ipod nano battery.

One of the number one things that one must have in mind is to have the latest software for your ipod. As simple it may sound but having the latest software installed on your ipod could make your ipod nano battery to last longer. If you go the Apple website under support, you can find the appropriate link or place where you can check if you have the latest software installed on your ipod. This doesn’t take much and well worth it for a longer battery life.
Another really useful and helpful tip that many people that have ipods that is often overlooked is the “hold button”. The hold button on the ipods is designed so you can switch it to hold when you are not using your ipod. This prevent accidentally hitting a button and more than likely turning on your ipod unintentionally. This is almost similar to putting your cellphone in locked mode that prevents unintentional dialing your cellphone.

There are lots of ipod owners who are just puzzled most of the time why their ipod’s battery is low or dead when they’re aware that their ipod is freshly charged. What happens is when they neglect to put their ipod on “hold” mode, the ipod get switched on while its on their pocket. And since ipod’s control are touch sensitive, a simple brush of our finger could turn it on. The result, dead ipod nano battery.

So remember that if you are not using your ipod make sure that the hold button is switched to the hold position this way if a button is hit accidentally the ipod will not be turned on while is not in use. This will help your ipod nano battery life.

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

These are two really useful tips when it comes to trying to maximize your battery life or just trying to get the most out of your ipod nano battery. If you make sure that you have the latest software for your ipod, and make sure that the hold button is switched to hold when you are not using your ipod then you should see a difference in performance.

When you purchase an ipod nano or any other ipod you want to be listening to it as much as possible. This means you don’t want to be recharging your ipod nano battery all the time. In order for this not to happen one must follow some useful tips that will increase playtime.

This means increasing the amount you can use your ipod, and decreasing the number of times you must recharge your ipod nano battery. Two useful tips will be covered, with the purpose of increasing your playtime for your ipod nano.

The first tip that will be covered has to do with the backlight of the ipod. The backlight gives you a great enhancement for your iPod but eats up a lot on your battery charge. Having your backlight of your ipod nano on unnecessarily will cause your battery to loose charge quickly. Thus making you charge your ipod nano battery most of the time and lesser playtime you can get from it. In order to prevent this from happening you can set the backlight to only be on for a couple of seconds. Also you can just completely turn it off when it is not needed, especially in a bright environment or during the daytime. If you are using your ipod nano during the daytime and there is sufficient sunlight that allows you to see the ipod screen, then there is no need to have the backlight on.

How to turn off the backlight option? Go to your options and turn off the backlight. When it is nighttime or its starting to get dark you can go and switch your backlight to be on. When you do this you can set it so it will only be on a certain amount of time and after that time has past and there is no activity it will shut off. Doing this with your backlight or your ipod nano will help increase the life of your ipod nano battery, and it will increase your playtime. At the same time your need to recharge the battery will be decreased.
Another common thing that causes your battery to loose its charge over time is recharging your battery unnecessarily. Often people will charge their ipod nano battery every night and during the day they barely used their ipod. This is why it is good to charge your battery when it is fully discharged, or as close as possible to being nearly discharged. When you charge your battery all the time with most of its charge left, this will decrease your battery lifetime overtime. This means that you will have to charge it more and more often as time passes. In order to postpone this as much as possible, charge your battery when it is fully discharged.

If you follow the above tips you will increase your playtime and overall battery life. Remember to only have the backlight on when necessary. When charging your ipod nano battery make sure it is fully discharged or really close to being completely discharged. Following these two tips will have you jamming more to your tunes, rather than charging your ipod nano battery often.

By now, you must already have appreciated the importance of knowing some basic facts about your iPod nano battery. If you haven’t yet, read on and find out what you are missing.

Your battery, like any other batteries, is destined to expire. Meaning, time will come that no matter how much you charge it, it won’t power that sleek tiny work of wonder called the iPod nano. It means you have to replace it. Have you noticed how impregnable your gadget seems? Unlike your any other toys, laptop, other mp3 players, or your cell phone, your iPod does not have a detachable cover for the purpose of removing and replacing the battery. No one knows what was inside Steve Job’s mind when he designed his iPod like a disposable gadget. And he sells replacement batteries!

Now, you wouldn’t want to rush changing batteries, do you? Besides the expense, you have to go through the trouble of prying open your sleek tiny work of wonder that is not designed to be opened at all. Visit http://www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html and you will find that Steve Jobs is charging you $59, plus $6.95 shipping for a replacement battery. (And he sells replacement batteries!… For his doorless iPod!) Thankfully, there are several third party manufacturers that sell at less than one-third of what the nerd of Silicon Valley is charging us, plus free shipping! Halleluiah, to free enterprise!

So, let us not rush putting ourselves into replacing that iPod nano battery by extending battery life: employ energy conservation measures. First on the list of our recommendations is an obvious measure that a lot of users just seem to always neglect—“hold.” When not in use, set it to hold. This will prevent your iPod from accidentally turning on and use power. Optimize your settings by turning off some features that consume your iPod nano battery more quickly. Not using these would conserve battery power: Wi-Fi, backlight, and equalizer. Do you know that Steve’s avowed 22-hour playtime was accomplished with these features off?

Your manual fast forward uses a lot of power as it forces the hard drive to skip songs until you find an audio file you wish to listen to. Compress your songs, less than 9Mb is better. That 22-hour playtime was also done with compressed songs.

You feel so secure seeing your iPod encased in that gorgeous pouch, or that lovely silicon gel casing. You’re sure that it is now protected. This protective cover could be the main enemy of your iPod battery (heat!) Remove your iPod when charging. Charging generates a lot of heat, let it breath.

Always check for latest software from Apple for your iPod as these would always find new ways to optimize battery performance. Note that early model iPods without dock connectors gained from update 1.3 or later. iTunes 7.4 or later can update your iPod with the latest software.

Finally, if you think that if you use your iPod sparingly, you would save its battery. You are wrong. Not using it for a longer periods of time will cause your iPod nano battery to deteriorate. Use your iPod, wisely. Enjoy it. And be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month.
